SLC Neighborhood Guide: Where to Find the Best Farmer’s Markets and Summer Festivals

Jul 28, 2025 | Things to do in Utah

There’s nothing like a Salt Lake summer: warm days, long evenings, and plenty of reasons to get outside. Whether you’re filling your tote with locally grown peaches, sipping a cold brew while listening to live music, or wandering a night market with friends, there’s something special about how Salt Lake neighborhoods come alive during these sunny months.

Here’s a neighborhood-by-neighborhood look at where to soak up the best of the season.

Downtown Salt Lake: Big Energy, Big Market

At the heart of it all is the Downtown Farmers Market at Pioneer Park, one of the biggest and most iconic in the state. Held every Saturday from June through October, this is your go-to spot for Utah-grown produce, fresh bread, handmade goods, and the kind of community vibe that makes you want to hang out all morning.

Saturdays, June 7 – October 25, 2025
8:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Make a morning of it: Grab a pastry and coffee, browse the stalls, and maybe catch a street musician or two before wandering over to one of downtown’s brunch spots or shady patios.

Central 9th: Small But Mighty

Just a few blocks south, Central 9th is making a name for itself with a monthly Night Market that’s equal parts street fair, art crawl, and community gathering. Think local makers, global eats, vintage finds, and music, all tucked into one of the city’s fastest-growing neighborhoods.

It’s walkable, it’s vibrant, and it’s the perfect way to spend a warm Thursday evening, especially with Central 9th’s bars and breweries nearby for post-market hangs.

Jordan Park & the West Side: Cultural Flavor and Community Roots

On Sundays, head west to Jordan Park, home of the 9th West Farmers Market and the International Peace Gardens. This market has a diverse, neighborhood-centric feel and often features produce you won’t find anywhere else, along with handmade crafts and ready-to-eat global cuisine.

It’s also one of the best places to bring kids, with grassy areas to run around, shaded picnic tables, and a laid-back vibe.

University District: Campus Meets Community

Don’t let the name fool you—The University of Utah Farmers Market isn’t just for students. This weekday market is perfect for a lunchtime stroll and supports local farms and food vendors right in the heart of campus.

Millcreek & Murray: Weeknight Market Vibes

If you’re looking to extend your summer fun into the evening, Millcreek Common is the place to be. The Millcreek Farmers Market runs on Wednesdays and draws a big crowd thanks to its live music, food trucks, and welcoming plaza space. And later in the season, the Harvest Market adds an autumnal twist.

Wednesdays, July 2 – September 24, 2025 | 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Harvest Market: Fridays, October 3 – 24 | 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Nearby in Murray, the Wheeler Historic Farm Sunday Market is a longtime favorite. Set on the west lawn of a working farm, it’s a family-friendly morning with food, animals, and local vendors.

If you’re south of downtown, don’t worry, you’ve got some great options too. The Sandy City Farmers Market at the Amphitheater Park is a midweek favorite, and South Jordan’s Farm Bureau Market offers a Saturday-morning community staple with farm-to-table options galore.

And What About Sugar House?

While the neighborhood no longer hosts a farmers market or fireworks in the park, Sugar House is still packed with summer events. Think sidewalk sales, live music nights, and pop-ups at Hidden Hollow or in the shopping district. It’s still one of the city’s most walkable areas, and a perfect weekend stop for brunch, iced coffee, and browsing locally owned shops.

From the lively crowds downtown to the community-driven corners of Millcreek and West Valley, Salt Lake’s neighborhoods each bring their flavor to summer. Whether you’re out for a week’s worth of produce, supporting small makers, or just soaking up the atmosphere, these markets and festivals are a perfect way to connect with the community and your city.
