It’s summer, and the heat is cranking up. For some, the heat is a welcome reprieve from the cold of winter. For others, not as much. For those of us that don’t necessarily love the heat, here are some ways to beat it.
With kids, there are several water parks in the valley you can check out. Cowabunga Bay at the south end of the valley boasts 11 water slides with 1000 feet of twisting and sliding, the Cowabunga Beach pool for a little more relaxing experience, or the lazy river. And, of course, the kids cove. At the north end, into Davis county, you have Lagoon A Beach at Lagoon, and Cherry Hill just up the road from there. At Lagoon A Beach, they claim 6 acres of slides, tubes, waterfalls, fountains, and plenty of swimming. And there are many public pools and free splash pads throughout the valley as well.

If Water parks aren’t necessarily your thing, check out one of the many air-conditioned museums in the valley. The Natural History Museum of Utah has some fantastic rotating exhibits, as well their regular exhibits. The Leonardo in downtown SLC has some great rotating art exhibits. Currently, there is a fantastic Van Gogh immersive exhibit you have to experience. They also have adult programs. Their Immersive Libations class presented by Jim Santangelo of the Wine Academy of Utah includes art and wine tastings. What’s not to love about that? Or catch a light or laser show at the Clark Planetarium. What is better than sitting in a darkened theater when it is scorching outside?

All the city and county libraries are air-conditioned as well. Yes, it’s summer, and you want to take a break. Who doesn’t miss the summer vacation from school days? But go ahead and keep your mind sharp. Go pick up a good book to enjoy.
And for those that love the heat and want to get out and enjoy it. There is so much hiking in the foothills and mountains around here. There are waterfalls and lakes to explore, rivers and streams. Or head south to the desert and really embrace the heat.
