Summer is here, the evenings are warming up, and you want to get out to hear some great music. Why not check out some of Utah’s best outdoor venues.
In the foothills of Salt Lake City, Red Butte Garden’s Outdoor Concert Series is always a winner. The venue is big enough to entice great artists and a fun crowd, but small enough that you aren’t overwhelmed by the masses. Many of the shows are sold out already, but you can still find great shows to go to.
Some perennial favorites are back this year, Michael Franti and Spearhead always put on a fun show, and so does Bonnie Raitt. Gypsy Kings are back again, as is Pink Martini. And with Howard Jones early in the season, bookended on the other side by Umphrey’s McGee and Ballet West, Red Butte has some fantastic shows this season.
Right in the heart of downtown at the Gallivan Center, you can find the stage for the Salt Lake City Arts Council’s Twilight Concert Series. A shorter season, but at a reasonable price for some great shows. If you’ve never seen The Decemberists, go check them out. Tickets are still available.
If you want to escape the heat a little and head up to Park City, The Deer Valley Music Festival and the Grand Valley Bank Community Concert Series are both at the Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater at Deer Valley. The Grand Valley events are free with some great options this season. Tickets for the Deer Valley series range from $20 to $110
And of course, you can always find some bigger shows at some of the bigger venues.
Garth Brooks is coming back to Salt Lake City this year to play at Rice Eccles. The Black Keys with Band of Horses, Santana, Chris Stapleton, and more are playing at Usana this summer as well.
So whatever your musical predilections, you find something that will get you up and out of your seat and dancing to the music this summer, and I’ll see you out there.
