If you’re one of the many people looking to buy a house in SLC, you may want to get to know the place a little better. Salt Lake City is a vibrant place filled with amazing nature, historic buildings, and fun-filled bars and restaurants. While the state of Utah may be known for having tighter alcohol controls than most—with some cities even being completely teetotal—in Salt Lake City, this is certainly not the case.
In fact, Salt Lake County accounts for over half of all liquor licenses in the entire state, meaning there are plenty of establishments to choose from in SLC.
Today I’ll take you through some of SLC’s best local bars (including some of my own personal favorites). Read on for the skinny on some of the best bars and breweries the Crossroads of the West has to offer.
1. Fisher Beer
Fisher beer has a long history in Salt Lake City. The brewery and bar have their roots in the historic Fisher Brewery, founded in SLC back in 1884. After a lengthy hiatus, a descendant of the original owner and some friends of his opened Fisher Beer in 2017, and since then, it has gone from strength to strength.
Today, Fisher Beer serves a rotation of delicious craft beers. My favorites are Citra Bomb and Blondowski. If you’re hungry, there are always various food trucks out front by the curb, and Fisher has great outdoor space on the patio out front or in the shade on the side. Located in the historic Granary District, this is definitely among my favorite breweries in SLC.
2. SaltFire Brewing Co.
SaltFire Brewing is a company that’s determined to do things differently—from the psychedelic artwork that surrounds its physical location and adorns its packaging to the strong beers it produces. It’s a friendly place, where everybody knows your name after you’ve been there a few times, and they have a great patio out front.
SaltFire Brewing is located just south of 2100 South on South Temple. This is another one of my all-time favorite spots to grab a beer or pick up a couple brews to go.
3. Desert Edge Brewery
Desert Edge Brewery is a stalwart of SLC bars, having been around in one form or another since 1972. Its 2nd-floor Trolley Square location is a classic space, not just because of the decor, big windows, and high ceiling, but also due to the atmosphere its owners have cultivated. Here you can grab a light bite or brunch as well as a delicious microbrew. A couple of my favorites are the Rare Roast Beef and the French Onion soup.
4. Redrock Brewery
Located in downtown Salt Lake City, Redrock Brewery is another long-running SLC establishment, having been open for over 25 years. Here, the menu is almost as much of a draw as the beers on offer, and that’s saying something. Redrock also has a separate bottle shop if you want to grab some drinks on the go.
5. Wasatch Brewery
You’ll find several Wasatch Brewery locations across SLC. From the Westside Tavern and Beer Store to the buzzy Sugarhouse location, and even a spot in the SLC airport, Wasatch is everywhere, and it’s easy to see why. The beers are award-winning, and the food is down-to-earth and delicious.
